Description of Organization: Sher Vancouver is a social, cultural, and support group for LGBT South Asians and friends. Sher provides peer support, information, referral, and social activities. Sher also delivers presentations to high schools and the community to combat bullying, racism, and other forms of discrimination. Sher currently has over 300 members and is affiliated with the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS) in Surrey. Type of Service Provided: Greener Steps emailed a professionally written letter to hundreds of eco-companies, non-profit organizations, associations, government departments, and eco-conscious citizens to help Sher Vancouver build an eco-friendly float for the 2010 Vancouver Pride Parade which is viewed by close to half a million spectators. In 2009, the Province newspaper selected the Sher Vancouver "Pride of Bollywood" entry as the best float of the day. The float had a live DJ, Bollywood and popular western music, and people dressed in saris and Indian costumes. Greener Steps is also helping Sher Vancouver market and promote their "Bang Bang Bollywood" dance at Celebrities night club during the 2010 Pride Week in Vancouver. The Bang Bang Bollywood dance is a fundraiser for the eco-float.
